Prahran Division 1 2008 - Wednesday Futsal Premiers
It was to be a mouth-watering affair and it didn't disappoint. Mixed Bag and The Coalition of the Willing battled it out for Grand Final glory and as the referee will tell you, it was a very competitive encounter. Both teams played a glorious passing game but it was Mixed Bag who took the honours on the day defeating their rivals 11-5 in a very misleading scoreline. Perhaps if The Coalition of the Willing's goalkeeper had not been injured from the semi-final, a different scoreline may have ensued but taking nothing away from Mixed Bag, they fully deserved their Grand Final triumph following an outstanding season.

Tommy Galvin was Mixed Bag's rock down back and sharpshooter up forward. His ability to steady his team in times of great need was inspirational as he helped his team claim the premiership title. He was a team player and a half who set up some fantastic goals and scoring some himself while in defence, he nullified the opposition attack. A truly deserving winner of the Most Valuable Player award. Congratulations!

Elwood Division 1 2008 - Wednesday Futsal Premiers
It was a fitting Grand Final as the two teams that had performed the best all season had advanced to the coveted Grand Final. On the day, The Biggest Losers got away to a flying start by three blistering goals to skip away to an early buffer. Dave FC collected themselves and clawed their way back from the deficit only for The Biggest Losers to up the ante. This time, there was no coming back, Dave FC dropped off and The Biggest Losers dominated by piling on more goals to close out the match 8-3 victors.

Footscray Division 1 2008 - Wednesday Futsal Premiers
It was tipped as a game to behold. The Footscray Reds v The Blue Panthers. Both teams eager, excited and very passionate. The Footscray Reds where the first team to settle and become accustomed to the pressure they call The Big One. A great shot from SULJO MEDJEDOVIC right foot score the Footscray Reds consolidate a 4-0 score at half time. The Blue Panthers needed something special if they where to restore the faith and believe they came into the game with. It was not to be with the Footscray Reds piling on another 7 goals to 1. The game ended with a great header from Arthur Chelidonis which has been voted as the goal of the year. Final score Footscray Reds 8 Blue Panthers 1.

It was a long and grueling preseason for the player the fans call Suljooooo. He returned with vigor determination and a clear mind. The focus Suljo displayed which lead the Footscray Reds thrashing the The Blue Panthers was exceptional. Whether it was in offence with his creating dash or solid in defense Suljo was the deserving winner of the MVP. Well done Suljo and remember half the battle in winning futsal games is mastering the game above your shoulders.

Footscray Division 2 2008 - Wednesday Futsal Premiers
The second division final was to be another grand spectacle between two very different teams. The Arjoboys finesse class and skill against the Real Cancuns pure grunt and determination was always going to go down to the wire. Real Cancun settled first with two goals in the first 4 minutes from striker Rob Masih and Beni the Great. It didn’t take long before the finesse was displayed as the Arjoboys pegged back the lead with two fantastic goals leaving the keeper wondering. 2-2 at half time. The Arjoboys where the first to strike after half time with two quick goals. Three minutes to go and Real Cancun where not giving up. Two quick goals from Collins and the game was all tied up 4-4 extra time golden goal. After a few stern chats from both coaches the boys knew the golden goal means first in best dressed. The Arjoboys mid field strike made sure of this. 5-4 in extra time. Well done Arjoboys.

The Plum-ers finished second on the league ladder but that didn't stop them from charging into the Grand Final and walking away with Thursday nights' ultimate prize! They had been this season's team with the best defence and this was reflected in the Grand Final as they restricted Pinksilver FC to 2 goals while scoring 5 themselves. Their impenetrable defence also became their dangerous attack as each offense proved to be dangerous as the men in blue capitalized on their hardwork to be this season's Division 1 Premiers!

Elwood Division 1 2008 - Wednesday Futsal Premiers
OZ-UK were brimming with confidence coming into this encounter after accounting for the much fancied London Irish in last week's semi-final. After causing one of the upsets of the season, it wasn't going to get any easier for OZ-UK as they faced a formidable outfit in The Biggest Losers, for whom have shown that they are anything but this season. Early in the first half, it seemed like everything was going to script as The Biggest Losers opened the scoring to break the deadlock. Credit to OZ-UK, they didn't let their heads drop and replied almost immediately with a well taken strike that left the impressive Biggest Losers goalkeeper, Chris, helpless. Soon after, controversy descended on the Elwood College Complex when Chris elected to pick up a back pass from one of his team mates, leaving the referee with no option but to point to the penalty spot. OZ-UK had the perfect opportunity to take a lead and psychological edge going into the half time break but it wasn't to be. The agile Biggest Losers keeper flung himself to his left, and parried the ball to safety. At half time, we had a game that was worthy of a Division 1 final and it was unlikely that it could get any better...but it did! Both teams seemed to employ similar long ball tactics in the second term but defences were well on top and dealt comfortably with the aerial battles that ensued. The Biggest Losers had one had on the title when they regained the lead midway through the second half but OZ-UK's fighting spirit was not to be denied, after they drew level for the second time from a well worked move. The 36min were up and it was through to extra time (penalties if required) to decide the fate of these two teams, one way or the other. So who (if anyone) was going to be the hero and get the golden goal? Step up to the plate, James from OZ-UK. With 7 seconds of first half extra-time remaining, James lashed an unstoppable shot in the top corner of the net that left The Biggest Losers heartbroken on a dramatic night of finals futsal. |

Elwood Division 2 2008 - Wednesday Futsal Premiers
Gary Was Wrong were coming into this match well rested after the 'no show' of the Berks last week. However, The Emley Moors were full of confidence after their hard working victory over the King of Tonga. In a tight and tense first half, goals were hard to come by but it was Gary Was Wrong who eventually opened the scoring with a good strike from outside the D. The Emley Moors then replied to even the ledger and it was now GAME ON in the Division 2 final. In the second half, Gary Was Wrong stepped it up a gear and Gary, for whom I was later informed is always wrong, seemed to be getting it right on this particular evening. His visionary, tigerish tackling, and sharp shooting swayed the final in his team's favour. Gary Was Wrong piled on the pressure, and the goals, to run out eventual winners in the end but The Emley Moors can hold their heads up high as they were beaten but definitely not disgraced. |

Being in the top 4 of the ladder all season and stealing the #1 position in the final round, Sexual Healing overcame the Blue Panthers in a heart-pounding semi-final 3-2 then carried on their season-defining form into the Grand Final against White Tails. Sexual Healing deservingly won the Grand Final 9-3 after they trailed early on but a White Tails player foolishly earned himself a red card and reduced the team down to 4 players. In the end, Sexual Healing's skill and teamwork guided them to a most deserving come-from-behind victory. |

Footscray Division 1 2008 - Wednesday Futsal M.V.P
Peter Acampora made some fantastic saves as White Tails's goalkeeper and kept them in the game for much of the time. His willingness to attack the ball and keep it out of the net was of very high standard and as such, was awarded the MVP. Congratulations Peter! |

Their finals campaign saw them defeat Futsoldiers in the last 90 seconds of extra time then downing Real Cancun FC in the Grand Final 8-6 in a thrilling finale which also saw the goalkeeper of Real Cancun FC dislocate his finger after a courageous save.
